The World Reimagined - what you need to know
The World Reimagined is a ground-breaking, UK art education project to transform how we understand the Transatlantic Trade in Enslaved Africans and its impact on all of us. To commemorate this fantastic project a trail of large Globe sculptures representing an element of historic slavery will be displayed across Leicester until the end of October. The trails are the centrepiece of the project aimed at promoting learning, a sense of community and heritage programs that aim to be all inclusive.
The World Reimagined was designed to inspire pride in what is means to be Black and British and to help everyone understand what British culture actually is, the national art education project aims to get people to understand what happened during the years when transatlantic slave trading was rife throughout the country.
The World Reimagined will bring a trail of 10 captivating globe sculptures to the Leicester streets, each designed by a new or globally-recognised artist.
Themes including 'Mother Africa' and 'The Reality of Being Enslaved' have been given to the Globes and they will be installed throughout Leicester City in places like the train station, The Clock Tower and the Highfields Centre.
BID Leicester has sponsored one of the globes, titled Reimagine The Future: From Roots to Fruit by artists Jarvis Brookfield and located at the Town Hall Square.
