The British Science Festival comes to Leicester
First held in York in 1831 and organised by the British Science Association; The British Science Festival is the longest running science Festival in the United Kingdom and it stemmed from a tradition of annual meetings of the Association usually based in a key city. The purpose being to bring scientists from all over to discuss their ground breaking work with each other across varying scientific disciplines and would also show these discoveries to the general public.
These annual gatherings were designed to insight discussion and debate amongst the top scientists in their field. In a similar vein The British Science Festival has inspired the growth of numerous other science festivals all over the country.
The British Science Festival is Europe's longest standing science Festival, travelling to a different place in the United Kingdom each year. The festivals main aim is to connect the general public with scientists from various different specialities.
Every year, an inspiring programme of free events takes place in a different city, the science festival spans over four or five days and is full of exciting opportunities and activities that anyone can get involved in. Activities include talks, workshops and drop in events that cover a wide variety of subjects and incorporates science in its broadest sense, again this is the intention so that there is inclusivity for everyone who takes an interest.
The British Science Festival in Leicester will be held between Tuesday 13 and Saturday 17 September 2022, with events being held on the University's campus, as well as at venues across the city, offering over 100 free activities for nearby residents.
